Fen Ditton is well served by Fen Ditton Community Primary School on Horningsea Road, within convenient walking distance for the whole village. The school recently received a glowing Ofsted report, and is ranked among the best primary schools in the country.

There are no pre-schools in the village itself. Under-5s can attend Teversham (C of E) School , See-Saw nursery on Newmarket road, or The Fields nursery attached to Abbey Meadows School.

Pupils of secondary school age can attend Bottisham Village College, which is served by a school bus.

Pubs and restaurants

The village is well server by four pubs: The Blue Lion, The King's Head, The Plough and The Ancient Shepherds. Between them they cover every aspect of eating out and drinking. You can explore them via our village tour pages.

Shops

There are no shops within the village itself. There is a row of shops on Ditton Lane, approximately a ten minute walk from the crossroads, which includes a One Stop convenience store (tel 293204), a good traditional butcher (Cowlings), a pharmacy and a chip shop.

Since the closure of two local branches, the nearest Post Office is in Vinery Road, Cambridge.

Medical

The East Barnwell Health Centre (tel 01223 728900) serves Fen Ditton, located 10-15 minutes' walk away on Ditton Lane.

Library

The nearest library is on Barnwell Road near the junction with Newmarket Road - tel (01223) 712083.

Transport

Fen Ditton has direct road links to Cambridge and the A14. It is served by Stagecoach's Citi 3 buses, which depart from the Fison Road bus stop (allow 10-15 minutes' walk from most parts of the village) every ten minutes all days except Sunday. For train travel, Waterbeach station may be easier than Cambridge central station for certain journeys.

Travel to Cambridge city by bicycle is quick and efficient. The NCN 51 cycle path runs just south of the village, and offers a pleasant ride in along the River Cam. See Cambridge Cycle Campaign's photo-map pages for more information.
